Anthropic moved its monorepo off git to an in-house system, Scion, as daily merges hit 30,000
Anthropic says daily merges to its monorepo rose from about 2,500 in May 2026 to over 30,000 in September, so it built Scion, an in-house version control system, and moved off git in five months. It reports about 200x less CPU and memory than its old git mirroring setup, and CI checkouts in seconds. Scion is not being released; Anthropic says it is not a suitable git replacement for general use.
