Anthropic updates usage policy: bans sustained cruelty toward its models, tightens weapons and surveillance rules
Anthropic published a 2026 usage policy effective Nov. 12. It adds a ban on "sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior toward our models," limited to extreme cases, with ending conversations the main enforcement. It also bars building surveillance tools or using Claude to decide who to investigate or arrest, and extends the weapons ban to software and drone arming.
