OpenAI will watermark ChatGPT text written in the EU
OpenAI said Monday it will add an invisible watermark to eligible ChatGPT and Codex text generated in the EU over the coming weeks, and API customers anywhere can now opt in. It is a compliance signal, not a lie detector, and OpenAI says so itself.
Why it matters If you draft in ChatGPT inside the EU, your raw output will soon carry a signal a detector can find. It cannot prove who wrote anything, and edits weaken it, so do not let a client, school or boss treat a hit as a verdict. Set your disclosure rule before they do.
