AI news for Wednesday, November 4, 2026: Apple opens Siri AI to apps, Google makes school AI opt-in

Two platforms decided how AI reaches people this week. Apple handed developers a new door. Google made Search the price of saying no.

Apple opens Siri AI to every app developer
Apple's iOS 27.3 betas let any app plug its actions into Siri AI through App Intents, with App Store submission opening in spring. If your product lives on an iPhone, this is your next front door.
Why it matters Siri AI is about to become a way people use your app without opening it. The actions you expose, and how clearly you describe them, decide whether Siri can do your app's job or sends people to a rival's. The beta is open now and submissions open in spring, so the head start is yours to take or lose.

Google makes school AI opt-in, and Search goes with it
Google says Gemini and Search will be off for K-12 student accounts until administrators turn them on, and a school that blocks AI also loses Search. That is control with a price tag, and schools now have to name it.
Why it matters If you run IT for a school or build for one, the default just flipped and the decision is now yours, in writing. If you build anything that depends on students searching, the choice may be Search with AI or no Search at all. Plan for both.

CrowdStrike buys Fiddler and Dreadnode to police AI agents
CrowdStrike agreed to buy Fiddler AI and Dreadnode, about $495 million combined per The Wall Street Journal, and shipped a kill switch for rogue agents. Agent security just became a line item, not a research topic.
Why it matters If you run AI agents inside a company, your security team is about to ask what they did, why, and how to stop them. CrowdStrike is now selling answers to all three. Have your own logs and an off switch before someone else's product defines them for you.

AMD data center sales nearly double to $8.5B
AMD reported $8.5 billion in third-quarter data center revenue, up 97%, and guided the next quarter to about $17 billion. Nvidia still sets the price of AI compute, but it no longer sets it alone.
Why it matters Every serious second supplier of AI chips puts pressure on what you pay for compute, whether you rent GPUs or buy tokens. AMD says Anthropic, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI and Oracle Cloud are running workloads on its new Helios racks. If you price inference, that competition is worth tracking quarter by quarter.

Fal doubles its valuation to $16B on AI media demand
Fal, which runs image, video and audio models for developers, raised a $1.3 billion Series F at a $16 billion valuation, double April's, per TechCrunch and Bloomberg. The money in generative media is moving to whoever runs the models, not only whoever trains them.
Why it matters If you build with image, video or audio models, you are probably paying an inference host, and those hosts are now flush with capital. Expect more models served faster and harder competition on price. Keep your integration portable so you can take the better deal.

Prompt of the day

Pick the app actions an AI assistant should run for your users

› You are a product strategist helping me prepare my app for AI assistants that can run app actions on a user's behalf, like Apple's new Siri AI developer preview.

My app: [what your app does, in two sentences]
My users: [who uses it and the top three things they come to do]
Common support requests: [paste 5 to 10 real questions or tickets]

Do this:
1. List the 10 actions or lookups a user would most want done without opening the app. For each, give the request in the user's own words, the inputs it needs, and what it returns.
2. Rank them by value to the user and by how safe they are to run without a confirmation screen. Mark anything that moves money, deletes data or messages other people as "confirm first".
3. Pick two actions that could chain into one multi-step request and write out the steps.
4. For the top five, write a one-line description an AI model would use to choose the right action: a specific verb, the object, and when NOT to use it.
5. Name the three failure cases most likely to embarrass us and say how each action should respond.

Use tables where they help. If something important is missing, ask me up to three questions before you start.
