Apple's Siri AI comes home with limits and a future fee
Apple opened pre-orders for a $299 Apple TV 4K and the $299 HomeView, both built around a Siri AI beta and available Nov. 13. Apple's fine print caps server features daily and says more access will cost a fee.

Apple's Siri AI is moving into the living room. It is arriving with a meter, and Apple has said out loud that more will cost money.
Apple opened pre-orders on Oct. 13 for a new Apple TV 4K and a new smart display, HomeView. Both are built around Siri AI, and both are available from Nov. 13.
Two $299 devices, one assistant in beta
The Apple TV 4K costs $299 in the U.S. and runs on the A19 chip, with three far-field microphones for hands-free Siri, Apple says. Siri AI on it can answer follow-up questions in a small overlay while a show plays and control smart home accessories and scenes hands-free.
HomeView also costs $299. It has a 7-inch display and the A18 chip. Apple says Siri AI on HomeView brings broad world knowledge and more conversational answers to anyone in the home. Paired with an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad, it adds onscreen awareness and personal context from apps like Messages and Calendar.
Siri AI is a beta on both. It launches in English in eight countries: the U.S., the UK, Canada, Australia, India, New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa. HomeView is not sold in the EU at all, because Siri AI is not available in iOS there, Apple says.
Older hardware gets it too. Apple says the Siri AI beta runs on the Apple TV 4K from the second generation on.
The footnote is the news
Read Apple's fine print. Some Apple Intelligence features that rely on server-side models have daily usage limits, Apple says. And both releases add one line:
"Expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future."
That is Apple confirming a paid tier for its assistant.
Google already works this way: its newest Gemini model sits behind the Pro and Ultra plans. A daily cap and a future fee put Siri on the same road. The assistant stops being something the hardware includes and becomes something you top up.
Apple repeats its privacy pitch. It says that when requests are processed in Private Cloud Compute, "data is neither stored nor made accessible to Apple or anyone else."
If you build for the home, plan for a metered Siri
If you make smart home gear or an app that talks to Siri, you have a new question to design for: has your customer already hit today's limit when they ask?
If you own a recent Apple TV 4K, you do not need new hardware to try the beta. The home's owner does need an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone or iPad on the latest software, with Siri AI turned on, Apple says.
And if you live in the EU, none of this is coming yet.
Watch the price tag Apple has not named
Apple gave no price, no date and no limit numbers for the paid tier. The first number it publishes will tell you whether Siri AI is a feature or a subscription.
Watch the daily cap. Then watch the bill.
