The app you describe to an AI can now install from Google Play like any other app, using the Google account you already have.

Google says that starting Oct. 13, you can build an Android app in Google AI Studio and run it on your own device through Google Play, with just a standard Google account.

Private apps, in Google Play, with your normal account

Google's post is short. The app stays private and out of the public Play catalog. The rollout starts in select markets, including the U.S., for people 18 and over.

Sharing comes later. Google says it plans to let you share these personal apps with a close circle of friends and family "in the coming months."

Going public is still the old road. To put an app in front of everyone, Google says you move to a professional developer account, and the app goes through the same Trust & Safety reviews and quality standards as every other developer's.

Google removed the last annoying step

Before this, AI Studio could already build an Android app from a prompt. Its Android build docs describe two ways to get it on a phone. You could plug the phone into your computer with USB debugging turned on. Or you could publish to a Play internal testing track, which needs a Play developer account with a one-time $25 fee.

Both were fine for developers. Both stopped most everyone else cold.

Google's new path cuts that step out. It turns vibe coding from a demo in a browser tab into an icon on your home screen.

It is a small product change with a big audience. Anyone 18 or older in the launch markets with a Google account and an idea for a one-person app is now a few prompts away from installing it.

What you can build, and what you can't yet

The same docs set the limits. AI Studio's Android apps are client-side only, built in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, for phones and tablets. Firebase, Google Workspace APIs, secrets management and multiplayer are web-only for now, and the preview emulator does not support camera, NFC, Bluetooth, Sign-In or Maps.

So think tracker, calculator, checklist, a tool for one job you do every day. Not a social network.

Two cautions. An app an AI wrote, that nobody reviewed, now runs on the phone that holds your email and your bank. Keep these apps away from passwords and payment details until you have read what they do. And Google has not said how updates to these private apps reach your phone, so check before you depend on one.

If you have been meaning to build a small tool for yourself, this is the week.

Watch the friends-and-family release

Private installs are the start. The real test is the sharing Google has promised for the coming months. Once your vibe-coded app can reach your family's phones, the question is who checks it first, and Google has not said whether that sharing gets a review.

Build one for yourself. Then see who asks for a copy.

Questions people ask

Do I need a Google Play developer account to install an AI Studio app?

No. Google says you can run an app built in Google AI Studio on your own device through Google Play with a standard Google account. Publishing it publicly still needs a professional developer account.

Who can use private AI Studio apps on Google Play?

Google says the rollout started Oct. 13, 2026, in select markets including the U.S., for users 18 and over.

Can I share my AI Studio app with friends?

Not yet. Google says sharing with a close circle of friends and family is planned for the coming months.

Google launches Gemini agent, and it runs Claude too

Google Cloud unveiled the Gemini agent on Thursday, one agent for chat, long-running tasks and code that routes each job to Gemini or Anthropic's Claude models. Google gave no price and no general availability date, so plan for it but don't budget for it yet.
