YouTube Music now labels songs made mostly by AI

YouTube Music began labeling songs created "primarily using generative AI" on Oct. 14, working with music partners and its own detection tools. A day after Deezer promised a filter, labels look like the floor, and the line YouTube drew leaves the hard cases open.

YouTube just drew a line for AI music. The line is one word: primarily.

YouTube Music started labeling songs created "primarily using generative AI" on Oct. 14. Its example is a track where a generative model made both the composition and the vocals.

How the label works

The label sits on the track's player page. Tap it and a menu opens with more detail, YouTube says.

YouTube says it is teaming up with music partners and using its own detection tools to find these tracks. It applies the same labeling principles it already uses for AI content elsewhere on YouTube.

The labels will "also expand to the main YouTube app," the post says. It gives no date.

Deezer went further the day before

Deezer announced on Oct. 13 a toggle that removes fully AI-generated tracks, albums and their related artists from search results. It rolls out globally before the end of 2026, Music Business Worldwide reports.

Deezer says it now receives nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks a day, up from about 10,000 when its detection tool launched in January 2025.

Nearly 90,000 a day.

A November 2025 Ipsos survey commissioned by Deezer found that 45% of streaming users "would like to filter out 100% AI-generated music."

Labels are the floor

YouTube picked the gentler tool. A label informs the listener and leaves the song where it was. A filter takes it out of reach.

Once a label exists, a filter is one setting away, and Deezer's survey says a large share of listeners would switch it on.

The weak spot is "primarily." YouTube's post does not say where the line falls for a human melody with AI vocals, or a human singer over an AI arrangement. Detection tools will make those calls at scale, and some calls will be wrong.

For creators, a wrong label on a song costs trust with listeners. For listeners, a missed one costs the label its meaning.

What it means if you make music with AI

If a model did the heavy lifting on a release, expect the label. Disclose it yourself before a detector decides for you.

If you use AI for parts of a song, keep a record of what you wrote and what the model generated: drafts, stems, session files. When a label is disputed, that record is your answer.

If you work with a distributor or label, ask how it reports AI use to YouTube. YouTube names its music partners as one of the two ways it finds these tracks.

What to watch

The date YouTube brings the labels to its main app. Then whether YouTube, like Deezer, gives listeners a way to hide what it labels.

Labels first. Filters next. Plan for both.
