Apple opens Keynote, Pages and Numbers to AI agents via MCP
Apple says a November update adds Model Context Protocol support to Keynote, Pages and Numbers on macOS 27, so outside AI agents can read, edit and automate your documents. The built-in assistant gets the attention. The open door for your own agent matters more.

Apple is handing your AI agent a key to its office apps.
Apple said on Oct. 27 that Keynote, Pages and Numbers will support the Model Context Protocol, which Apple says "enables external AI agents and tools to read content, perform edits, and execute automated actions" in those apps, according to Apple's newsroom post. It requires macOS 27 or later.
Apple ships its own assistant and a door for everyone else's
The same Creator Studio update adds a beta AI assistant inside Keynote, Pages and Numbers. Apple says it is "built on Apple models and OpenAI" and understands the context of the document you're in.
In Keynote it helps design, animate and refine slides. In Pages it drafts and restructures text. In Numbers it calculates, recommends chart types and organizes data, per Apple.
The assistant works in U.S. English only, on an Apple Intelligence-capable device running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27.
Logic Pro on the Mac gets its own beta assistant, which Apple says is "powered by a combination of Apple-built and third-party models."
The updates reach the App Store in November, free for existing Creator Studio subscribers. New subscribers pay $12.99 a month or $129 a year in the U.S., Apple says.
The protocol matters more than the chatbot
Apple's assistant will be one assistant among many. MCP support means the AI agent you already picked can work in Apple's files through the same standard that connects agents to plenty of other tools.
Until now, an outside agent that wanted to change a Keynote deck had to script the app, export the file, or drive the screen with computer use. A standard connection that agents already speak is simpler to build on.
It is also a choice Apple didn't have to make. It is letting other companies' agents into apps it owns, instead of saving that work for its own assistant.
What to do before November
If you build agents, put Keynote, Pages and Numbers on your list of MCP targets. Apple's post doesn't list which actions are exposed, so wait for the documentation before you promise a feature.
If you work in these apps every day, you will have two paths. Apple's assistant is the built-in one: beta, U.S. English, Apple's hardware requirements. The other is the agent you already use, once its client speaks MCP.
If you run agents locally, Apple's hardware news from the same day is worth a look. Apple introduced a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 and says it is up to 25 percent faster than M5 at on-device AI work such as LLM prompt processing. It starts at $1,999, with availability on Nov. 6.
Watch the docs and the permission prompt
Watch for Apple's developer documentation on what an outside agent can read and change in these apps, and for how macOS 27 asks you to approve it. An agent that can edit your board deck needs a permission prompt you'll actually read.
Read the scopes. Then connect.
