Saudi Arabia just put its two biggest checkbooks behind one AI company.

PIF and Aramco said on Nov. 1 that Aramco's purchase of 49% of Humain has closed. PIF, the kingdom's Public Investment Fund, keeps 51%.

Cash, compute and Aramco's own AI assets

Aramco is buying in through a wholly owned subsidiary. It contributes about SAR 9.9 billion in cash in 2026, which Aramco puts at:

$2.6 billion.

It also hands Humain key AI assets, plus compute and digital assets. The release does not put a value on those.

Humain launched in May 2025. Aramco says it plans to deploy 3 gigawatts of AI data center capacity by 2030 and to build across four areas: data centers, infrastructure and cloud platforms, AI models including ALLaM, and AI solutions. Its stated aim is to become one of the leading exporters of AI globally.

PIF's Yazeed A. Al-Humied said bringing the two AI portfolios together under Humain "creates a powerful synergy." Aramco CEO Amin H. Nasser said the partnership "strengthens Aramco's position as a global technology leader and AI powerhouse."

One national champion, two state owners

Saudi Arabia had two state giants with AI ambitions. Now it has one company carrying both.

That matters for a simple reason. Building compute at gigawatt scale takes years of steady cash, and an oil company with Aramco's revenue can supply it.

It closed a day before OpenAI signed four deals in Abu Dhabi (today's #2). The Gulf's oil states are buying AI, and in Humain's case they plan to sell it abroad.

What it means for you

If you plan compute or data residency in the Middle East, Humain is a state-backed supplier with an oil company's cash behind it. That makes it a credible regional option to price against the big US clouds.

It is also another buyer in line for the same chips and power you are waiting on. Three gigawatts of new demand does not come from nowhere.

What to watch

Aramco's release gives no timeline for the first of those 3 gigawatts and names no customers. Watch for both.

Announced capacity is a plan. Watch for the first data center to go live.
